3 Swings and You’re Out

True Story to Share with you…

But first:

I Hope you and your family had a wonderful Christmas and New Years and are looking toward an amazing 2026.

Here’s the Story:

Growing up as a kid, my brother and I used to have these wicked-awesome whiffle ball games in our yard.

We called the field where we played the games: Yeagalello Stadium!

It was really just a field that had a creek running up the left side to a point, and then Yeager Hollow road on the right side running to the point.

The rules were simple.

Hit the ball anywhere in play and if it did not at least hit or clear the creek, or road: it was an out!

Meaning, potentially 3 swings of the bat could end your at-bats for the inning.

Truth be told: we had a very sophisticated process of cutting off the ends of the whiffle bats, loading them with wet rags, reattaching the end, and then using black mining tape to wrap it(was mining tape cause it said MSHA on it…Mine Safety and Health Administration). This wasn’t your standard low grade electrical tape haha. Anyway. I digress. Our bats could really launch the whiffle balls! Sometimes, we’d put some onto the upper deck of mom and dad’s house.

The lesson of this story is this:

The average homeowner in the US buys 3 different homes over their lifetimes.

The common rhythm is: First time home buyer/starter home. Second, a move-up into a larger home to accommodate a growing family. Followed by, a downsizing to a smaller, more manageable retirement home.

Here is the point.

You get 3 opportunities to swing at these opportunities in your lifetime. You want to make sure you do well with each one.

Little known fact:

According to Google, the average US homeowner creates about 45% of their net worth from the equity they have created in their primary residences over the lifetimes.

Read that again: 45%

That is a significant amount of somebody’s retirement.

Anyway,
